Evolution of stock car racing is something most amazing that has happened in the car industry and in any sense of owning, driving or racing a car.
The first beginnings of the stock car racing were made known to the world by the usage of old family sedans and sometimes even rented cars. This was something that attracted people in huge numbers and it was also something no one has ever done before.
The time that is marked as the start of the evolution of stock car racing was after the war in 1948. This era had been full of old family sedans so it was made easy for people to enter the race and compete with other drivers. Since any post war era lacks the money so it was then and since rental cars were also possible to compete that was yet another reason why people found it great.
This early stage of the evolution of stock car racing was known for real stock car racing where nothing was changed in any way. The glass on the vehicles could not be touched and the roll bars were something not required and often not installed on the racing vehicle. For the seat belts for example, you were only allowed to use aircraft harness or ropes.
Even though the rules were strict, this type of cheap racing had been full of many different manufacturers and it was not long since the people started understanding just what cars where better than the others.
This in turn led to the manufacturers realizing that they can make more sales and profit and not to lose customers if their cars were to win the races. This was the first step in the evolution of stock car racing and that is the reason why every car we drive today is so much better in security, traction, speed and many other different details that casual drivers are not even able to notice, but it impacts the lives of all.
Since in that time the roads were mostly rough dirt tracks, the tires were the biggest problems that racers had with the stock cars. It was often found that at some point of the circle some car could have its tire blown and accidents had happened.
Since manufacturers did not like to have their cars labeled as not working or often to break, they found a way to get racing parts into the stock car racing. The only way that they were able to do that was to have the stock cars fitted with these parts, so that was exactly what they did.
The first change was the racing tires that were brought into the picture in 1952 by the Pure Oil Company. Since then, there were not only street tires but also racing tires that you could use in the race. The next in line to make their stamp on the line of evolution of stock car racing were Hudson, Lincoln and the Oldsmobile that just a year later brought kits that gave racers better suspension parts such as axles, hubs, spindles, etc. This made it a great treat for any driver that got tired of the second worst thing in that time, the suspension failures.
In that same year, Hudson added a few more treats to its loyal and new customers, the new and very powerful Twin-H carburetor. This little stunt made them win over 50% of the races in that year and introduced many customers in waiting in line for their new car.
The Chevrolet was not behind and in the 1955 they thought to bring something on the street that is still used to this day in various applications, the small block 355 cubic inch V8. This was in turn followed by the aluminum brake drums by Buick, which resulted in faster heat desorption and in turn continued performance of the same level.
Soon the race started to be something more than just the race. They were already something great in the evolution of stock car racing that made the cars what they are today. They are fast and secure with as much as the manufacturers can offer so we are able to live a life of luxury and ease.
